APIMONDIA President

Denmark 12 May 2005

APIMONDIA 2005 August 21 – 26 in Dublin, Ireland.

The detailed programme for the Congress was the main issue for the meeting in Dublin, Ireland 7 – 8 May between the Irish Organising Committee and the APIMONDIA executive council.
The invited speakers submitted 438 abstracts and plenty of practical “hands on” workshops, which means that we have a very large interesting programme for everybody in the apicultural world.
During the congress you will have the choice between a wide range of lectures, posters and practical workshops. The detailed programme will appear on the congress website www.apimondia2005.com during the next few days.

Some highlights from the very large programme of lectures and posters are:

• The Honeybee genome, revolution in honeybee genetics. New information on biodiversity of honey bees in different countries.
• The genetic evolution of honeybee populations.
• The native dark European Honeybee. History, geography, genetics, honey production, selection and breeding.
• Import – export of bee products, quality aspects and regulations.
• Use of pesticides on bee-health (including new information on Imidacloprid)
• Production of quality honey
• Pollinator diversity and competition
• Diversity of conditions that can be addressed by Apitherapy
• GMO-crops and bees
• Control of bee diseases.

These are just a few of the 200 lectures that will be given.
During the plenary sessions simultaneous translation is provided into French, German, Spanish and Russian.

Practical workshops include:

• Bees for development: 3 days of 30 different practical workshops. Build your own hive, production of soaps, candlemaking and 27 others.
• How to establish a residue monitoring scheme?
• Pollination and Bee Flora: pollen analysis, basic techniques.

APIEXPO

The APIEXPO is very large. Look at the congress website to find the list of exhibitors and a map of the exposition hall.
The congress participants have access as well to the APIMONDIA village. This is the marketplace extension of the APIEXPO and also has practical demonstrations.

Contests

The World Honey Show is taking place during the congress. Honeys from all over the world will be on display and will be judged by experienced judges.
Numerous other contests will take place. Look at the list of contests at the congress website. It is still possible to enter the many contests.
The world Honey queen will be elected at the congress as well.

It is a great adventure to visit an APIMONDIA congress. You will be able to meet everybody involved in any of the many aspects of apiculture all over the world.
You will be able to hear a lot of interesting lectures and discuss with the scientists.
At the APIEXPO you will see great diversity of equipment and bee products.
But not least, you will have a large social programme during the congress, with receptions, entertainment with some nice music and dancing.

Look for further information of the congress on www.apimondia2005.com.

Yours Sincerely
Asger Søgaard Jørgensen
