Preface

The International Bee Research Association (IBRA) was founded January 1949 and from the beginning its aims were to collect, collate and disseminate information gained through research and good practice in bee science and beekeeping.

IBRA fulfils these tasks in many ways including the publication of learned journals one of which is Bee World. This journal is the bridge between bee science and beekeeping. That is it makes bee scientists keep their feet on the ground and aware of the practical problems being faced by beekeepers, while at the same time keeping beekeepers posted on developments that will make them more skilled, more competent and hopefully more profitable. It also covers bees other than honey bees, such as humble bees and solitary bees. Articles are written by international experts and are peer reviewed.

Articles cover the latest information on a wide range of topics. If there are particularly important subjects, for example : the treatments for European foulbrood; queen introduction; the effects of honey as a medicine; and legislation on varroa control then IBRA produces a reprint, so that a group of articles on one theme can be purchased separately

Genetic Modification of Organisms (GMO) is currently a burning issue and we are pleased to publish a reprint on: The EU Regulatory Framework for GM Crops in Relation to Bees - a compendium of three papers written by Professor Ingrid Williams of IACR, Rothamsted and originally published in Bee World in 2002. It is also available in CD format.
