Apitherapy
Apimondia should be the consulting organisation for any subject or project related to bees, beekeeping and bee products
Apimondia should be the consulting organisation for quality control of bee products for food, medicine or other destination
Biology
Special efforts should be made by governmental responsible research authorities for lending support to fundamental and coordinated research in the field of race characterisation of honeybee populations
Economy
To strengthen the communication of world professional beekeepers
To put forward a catch phrase "Api-Minimum" to instil the notion of the minimum scale of beekeeping ecologically necessary to each area in the world
Flora and pollination
The Commission will, in collaboration with ICPBR, continue to monitor the possible impact on bees and beekeeping from the further development and commercial planting of GM crops. (action: special issue of Apiacta / collaboration with ICPBR for future symposia)
The Commission will compile and distribute information concerning the, until now under-estimated, importance of honeydew as a natural resource for honey production. (action: special session at the congress in Slovenia)
The Commission will compile and distribute information about the importance of bees as pollinators of natural flora. Attention will be given to conservation of such natural resources for bees kept by beekeepers. (action: symposium in spring 2003 in Costa Rica)
The Commission will, after recently working on pollination of crops in greenhouses, take action now concerning the pollination of crops in the tropics. (action: symposium in Costa Rica)
Pathology
The spread of Varroa could have serious consequences, especially for traditional beekeeping in Africa. Apimondia is available for assisting beekeepers, advisers and scientists. This congress represents the first forward in this process
Rural development
Apimondia's congresses represent the main international forum for beekeepers from developing countries to meet and exchange experiences. Our increasing interdependency makes it imperative that people from developing countries are enabled to participate in this forum. The Organising Committee of Slovenia 2003 are requested to ensure that delegates do not face problems with visa formalities, and also to locate funding sources for participation of those for whom payment is impossible
Technology
To promote the 7 specialiased newsgroups, present on the website www.apimondia.org
(journals, other websites, mailing lists on bees, etc.) and to put, online, the last texts of the Codex alimentarius concerning bee products
To prepare a folder for the members with a wide variety of honey houses plans
To encourage studies on honey-harvesting methods for the most aggressive bee strains in order to promote their application in disadvantaged rural areas in the Tropics
To encourage equipment manufacturers to sell on the market appropriate presses and extractors for raw combs.
